5) Reportedly rejected Manchester United and Atletico Madrid to join Liverpool
The Brazilian was a much coveted midfielder in the transfer market before he surprisingly decided to move to Liverpool. The interest from Atletico Madrid was more concrete with many rumours suggesting he was closing in a on a move to Wanda Metropolitano. Mourinho’s United too were interested as were the likes of Juve and PSG. To have rejected such top clubs in favour of a move to Liverpool suggests that Fabinho is really attracted to the idea of playing for the Reds rather than using the club as a stepping stone.
4) Mr. Reliable from the spot
One of Fabinho’s biggest attribute is his ability to convert from the spot, which is often underappreciated in football world. Fabinho boasts a perfect record in Ligue 1, having scored 15 out of the 15 spot kicks taken. In the Champions league two seasons ago, Fabinho suffered a rare off day from the spot when ball went on the left side of Roman Burki’s post. Last season, Fabinho had the most passes completed and also won the most tackles. His physicality and tactical mind will be a strong asset to Klopp’s Liverpool.
3) Shares the same agent as Cristiano Ronaldo
Fabinho had a relatively short career in his homeland as he soon left Brazil for Europe to join Rio Ave in Portugal. Jorge Mendes, one of the football’s most prestigious agents, teamed up with Fabinho to help his career growth. Mendes has since remained Fabinho’s agent. Mendes has presided over expensive signings of Ronaldo, Di Maria and James Rodriguez. Mendes is also Mourinho’s agent, which could have been a decisive factor had Fabinho moved to Manchester United instead he joined United’s arch rivals in Liverpool.
2) Former Real Madrid player
The former Monaco man was a Real Madrid player at one point, though only for a brief period. He left Rio Ave to join Real Madrid Castilla. However, his fine abilities earned him a senior team debut. He came on for Fabio Coentrao against Malaga for his only appearance for Los Blancos. Though, in that short period, he did set up Di Maria for the six goal of the night. Ironically, he is the first player Liverpool have signed since their defeat to the hands of Fabinho’s ex club in Kiev.
1)Played under Jose Mourinho
There was more to Fabinho moving to Manchester United than just the same agent Mourinho and he share. Liverpool’s new mega signing was once under the supervision of Jose Mourinho. Infact, Fabinho’s Real Madrid debut came under none other than Jose Mourinho. Perhaps, Mourinho was willing to reunite with the midfielder, who has now evolved into a fine player. Fabinho’s versatility too makes him an exciting prospect, with the midfielder equally capable of playing as a right-back. More than anything, Fabinho will prove as a solid replacement for Emre Can, who has all but signed with Juventus.
