Five things to know about new Chelsea signing Alvaro Morata

5) A flamboyant proposal

Chelsea’s new striker is very candid in his methods be it his professional career or his personal life. His public proposal to lover, Alice, was nothing less than a fairy tale proposal. He took his girlfriend to a magic show, wherein the magician, Antonio Diaz, invited Alice and Morata on the stage for the next trick. As Alice faced the magician, he told her to turnaround as Morata was down on his knees, with a ring in his hand. The couple got married this past month in Venice. 4) Conte is a huge admirer

Though RomeluLukaku was Chelsea’s priority target this summer, it was Manchester United where the Belgian ended much to Chelsea fans’ annoyance. However, in turn, Chelsea managed to land Alvaro Morata, a player who has a huge admirer in Antonio Conte. It was the Italian who brought Morata to Juventus during his time at Bianconeri’s manager. As Conte left Juve that summer, the duo never got a chance to work together. Nevertheless, the duo will finally unite this time in London. Morata, himself, sung Conte’s praises claiming he would love to work with the Italian sometime in the future. This will be great news for Chelsea fans, particularly after Conte’s public breakup with Diego Costa, despite the Spaniard spearheading Chelsea’s title win last season.

3) Record Transfer fee

Alvaro Morata becomes the most expensive Spanish player with his transfer to Chelsea. The record was previously held by Fernando Torres, who was brought to the Bridge by Chelsea in a 50 million Euros deal with Liverpool. While Torres remarkably failed to provide goals on a regular basis, he did play crucial roles in Chelsea’s European success, with a knockout goal against Barca in the semi final in the 2011-12 season, and also scoring the Europa league final against Benfica the following season. The pressure will be on Morata to achieve Torres’ success, while also performing consistently. Since this will be the first season where Morata truly plays consistently, the jury will be out on him as there are many fans who believe Morata is not worth the transfer fee Chelsea paid for him.

2) Atleti Agent

Juanma Lopez, the former Atletico Madrid defender, is Morata’s agent. The 11-time capped Spain international graduated from Atletico’s academy before spending his entire career at the Calderon. The defender had to retire after sustaining a serious knee injury in ’01, after making just 12 appearances for the Madrid side in last four years. Lopez has so far had success representing Morata, as the new Chelsea striker has had successful spells with Juventus and Real Madrid.

1) Buffon is a father-like figure for him

Morata failed to settle in Italy initially after joining Juventus from Real Madrid. His failure to settle in Turin was on the front pages of the newspapers, before Gigi Buffon advised Morata to not show his problems in public, as people would use it against him. The legendary Italian guarded Morata as the Spaniard soon settled in Italy. Morata enjoyed a largely successful spell with Juventus, as he won two Serie A titles while also reaching the Champions league final in 2015.
