5. Emmanuel Adebayor
Adebayor was making some name in France with his football, but it was only Arsene Wenger who realised his potential. The Frenchman signed the African player for Arsenal, and it turned out to be a good signing especially during Adebayor’s second season with the Gunners. He scored 30 goals in all competitions and impressed many. Unfortunately for Arsene and Arsenal, Adebayor was lured by the super-rich Manchester City as he left them the followings season, which is a bit unfair given the faith Arsene showed in him when no one did.
4. Robin Van Persie
It was frustrating at Arsenal with some key players leaving almost every season and no trophies being won. The then Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie was one of the frustrated ones, and it was before the start of the 2012-13 season he demanded a move away. While Wenger had very little choice on making him stay, he surely didn’t expect Robin to join Manchester United. The Dutchman joined the Red Devils and went on to win the Premier League that very season.
3. Carlos Tevez
Tevez has always been involved in controversies. He forced his way out from the Corinthians to go on and play for West Ham United and Manchester United. After impressing at United, he surprisingly joined arch-rivals Manchester City, abusing Sir Alex Ferguson on some occasions. At City, he was involved in a row with the then manager Roberto Mancini in a game in Munich. He later joined Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua to become the highest paid footballer in the world.
2. Diego Costa
Diego Costa has not been an easy player to handle. He first made an appearance for Brazil but immediately switched to play for Spain when he received the Spanish nationality. At the beginning of this year, he was heavily linked with a move to China, but the foreign players per team rule proved to be the hurdle. After falling out with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, Costa refused to play for the London club and wanted a move only to Atletico Madrid and no other club, which he was successfully able to achieve last month.
1. Luis Figo
Barcelona fans can surely not forget what Luis Figo did to them. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is known to be a cunning man, and he was the one who persuaded Figo to sign for Madrid while the Portuguese was playing for Barcelona. Immediately after winning the presidency, Perez went on to sign Figo and made a statement of his capabilities and intentions. It was a heart-breaking moment for the Catalan fans, seeing one of their best players join their title rivals. Till date, the Barcelona fans have not forgotten what Figo did, and it is likely they won’t be forgetting it in the near future too.
