Why Manchester City are unlikely to secure 100 points in premier league this season

  1. Very small margin of error:

Manchester City currently stand at 78 points with 9 games left in the season. This means that City have to win a minimum of seven out of their nine remaining games which is certainly not going to be easy. They will be facing teams fighting for Europe and also for the salvation from relegation which will not make this any easier and that is why City cannot afford to take any of these matches lightly.

  1. The Manchester Derby:

The Manchester Derby is one of the most exciting matches of the season and while it is very nervy, City have to beat past Manchester United in order to achieve 100 points in the league this season. It will surely not be easy with Jose Mourinho planning to get one back at Pep Guardiola after the Spaniard won 2-1 in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford earlier this season. Also, United will try to make sure that City don’t register their title win by winning against them which is only going to make it harder for Pep to beat United.

  1. Yet to face Spurs at Wembley:

Facing Spurs at Wembely hasn’t been easy and it is surely not going to be easy for City as they face the North London side with a match against United and a quarter final match of the Champions League before and around this fixture. Pep will have to be very smart with his team selection and rotation and while it is not impossible to win in all the three fixtures, it is going to be a very tedious task for City to overcome.

  1. Relegation battling teams to be faced:

At this time of the season, the relegation battles are very tight and this season it has been no different. City are yet to face West Ham United, Huddersfield Town and Swansea City who all are fighting for staying in the top division. Swansea have been a revolution under Carlos Carvalhal and it will not be easy to beat them. West Ham and Huddersfield will too make it hard as City will have to dig deep to register all three points against these three teams.

  1. Champions League fixtures:

Manchester City face Liverpool in the quarter finals of the Champions League and certainly Klopp and his men are going to go all guns blazing against City. This fixture comes as a time when City face United and Spurs in the league, so squad rotation for Pep has to be spot on. Also, Liverpool remain one of the few teams who have managed to beat City this season and this will surely be a headache for Pep as it becomes very difficult now for him to be consistently victorious in both the Champions League and Premier League, making it unlikely that City will go on to win 100 points this season.
