Midfielders who could replace Michael Carrick at Manchester United

  1. Toni Kroos (Real Madrid):

The German international has been a delight to watch over the years. The former Bayern Munich man has plenty of experience under his belt and he sure can dictate terms on the pitch with his exquisite passing and creative playmaking abilities. Kroos is arguably one of the best midfielders in the right now and he can more than fill into Carrick’s  shoes but it will be one hell of a task to lure him to United especially with Madrid still furious about the De Gea and fax machine saga.

  1. Marco Verratti (Paris Saint Germain):

The Italian was touted to leave the French club last summer after strongly being linked to a move to Barcelona but unfortunately the move didn’t materialize. With PSG out of the Champions League early in the knockout stage once again, it has surely upset many of the big players at the club. Verratti is likely to be one of them and United should do everything possible to sign him to take advantage of his brilliance in the midfield.

  1. Julian Weigl (Borussia Dortmund):

Weigl is one of the finest young talents in the Bundesliga right now. Even the likes of his fellow German teammate Toni Kroos has been impressed with him as the youngster has been very dominant in the midfield. Weigl has been very good with his positioning and can run the show playing deep from the midfield. He has the sense of composure that Carrick used to bring at United and it should be easier to sign him than some of the other names on this list.

  1. Mateo Kovacic (Real Madrid):

It is safe to say that Kovacic hasn’t been the best of signings Madrid have made in the recent past. He hasn’t been involved much in the playing XI and with his limited chances he hasn’t been able to impress as much as he would like to. But it doesn’t change the fact that he possesses the quality to be an incredible passer and creator from the midfield. Signing him from Madrid would be a task for United but this is something United should try.

  1. Jorginho (Napoli):

Jorginho is probably the most underrated player in this list as the Italian continues to fight for the Serie A title with Napoli this season. Jorginho has his fan following and reportedly he has grabbed from Chelsea too to sign him next summer. The Italian is the powerhouse that keeps the Napoli attack running while he sits deep and helps out teammates in distress. He plays very similarly to how Carrick does and it is interesting to see if United are able to get his signature next summer.
