Possible replacement targets for Barcelona after Antoine Griezmann snub

5) Anthony Martial

It is easy to forget that Martial was once touted as the next Thierry Henry. Like Mbappe, Martial too possesses the same attributes. He has speed, athleticism and the kind of panache that Henry had in his game. Martial made the blockbuster move to United from Monaco and had a dream debut against rivals Liverpool. However, after that brilliant first season, Martial’s career at United has somewhat stagnated. Under Mourinho, more often than not, Martial has found himself warming the bench while Sanchez’s arrival has only further exacerbated the situation. So much so that Martial had to miss out on the French squad for the World Cup. He is reportedly angling for a move away and Barca would surely sign a player with top potential if they were to go all in for Martial.

4) Eden Hazard

The talented Belgian is also one of the players tipped for a move away this summer. Hazard has overseen a fine development during his time at Chelsea. Since arriving at Chelsea from Nice, Hazard has now won 2 Premier league titles and in addition, also seen a horrendous season where he was at the centre of criticism aimed at Chelsea. Last season, despite Chelsea’s struggles, Hazard once again showed why he is such a massive asset for the Blues. However, the Belgian has also expressed his desire of winning the Champions league title. With Real reportedly keen on Neymar, Hazard might be tempted into joining Barca.

3) Paulo Dybala

Dybala is one of the few players capable of taking over the mantle from the likes of Ronaldo and Messi when the duo finally relinquish their duopoly. Since joining from Palermo, Dybala has developed exponentially and has become a key cog in Max Allegri’s side. While he has shown immaturity and inconsistency at times but that is only normal for a player of his age. His arrival at Barcelona would also act as a true like for like replacement for Neymar in the long run and eventually help Barca in the transition when Messi calls it quits in the future.

Unarguably the most exciting prospects in Europe, Mbappe has done remarkably well since his mega money from Monaco. He has shown the maturity to perform at the highest level. Mbappe’s fine form has already earned him a place in the starting XI for the national team as well. If Mbappe continues his development, he will easily reach the level of Messi and Ronaldo. Like Dybala, Mbappe would not come cheap though will be a long term investment.

1) Mohammed Salah

Once dubbed as a premier league flop, Salah last season received the player of the season award. It has been a fairytale turnaround in fortunes for the Egyptian who is easily amongst the very best in the world. Having scored a massive 43 goals last season, Salah has understandably been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Barcelona. While Salah’s playing style is reminiscent of Lionel messi’s but the Argentine has dropped deeper in recent seasons which means that Salah could take up his preferred right wing position to make an impact. At 25, Salah still has a lot to offer and will instantly make Barca heavy favourites for the Champions league next term.
