GK: David De Gea
There is no doubt about this no matter how good a goalkeeper Sergio Romero is. De Gea is arguably the best goalkeeper in the Premier league if not in the world. He has been United’s Messiah more than often and the club would look upon him to perform in the same way next season should he opt to stay.
RB: Nikola Milenkovic/Aaron Wan Bissaka
Antonio Valencia seems to have come close to his United career now as he has grown out of favor. Both Ashley Young and Diogo Dalot have their own share of drawbacks right now at the right back and it is best United go for either Milenkovic or Wan Bissaka who have shown great form this season. Wan Bissaka would be a better option since he is more used to the Premier league than Milenkovic.
CB: Victor Lindelof
The Iceman has dramatically changed around his performance and become one of United’s best players under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. His calmness and leadership at the back has been vital along with his smart positioning and ball-playing abilities. With a quality partner besides him, Lindelof can surely benefit United with a stabilized defence.
CB: Kalidou Koulibaly
Koulibaly is one of the most wanted defenders in the football world right now and certainly a big target for United. United need a defender of Koulibaly’s style, someone bold, aggressive and smart at the back, to provide reliability in defence. Bringing in Koulibaly will be United’s priority if they are to strongly challenge for the title next season.
LB: Luke Shaw
The Englishman has had his fair share of struggles at United and in spite of being rated highly to become one of the finest fullbacks, Shaw has not yet reached his optimum level. That being said, he has showed some good form under Ole and if he can build on it, he sure can help United in a better way next season.
CM: Tanguy Ndombele
The Frenchman has made quite a reputation for himself in the Ligue 1 with some stellar performances with Lyon. His energy and gameplay in the midfield is a lot similar to what Michael Essien used to do for Chelsea. He is a complete package and United should go after him to have someone replace Nemanja Matic for a long time.
CM: Ander Herrera
The type of performances Herrera has been giving lately makes him a very valuable player for the near future. He has relentlessly worked hard in the midfield and provided great help both in the attack and defence. United will need him more because of the freedom he allows for Paul Pogba to flourish in the attack.
CM: Paul Pogba
At the moment, Pogba is almost unstoppable with his productivity in front of the goal. He has been involved both in the goals and assists and looks a very fine player to have in the team. Pogba has relished the game style adopted under Ole and he will be United’s most important player next season to challenge for title on all fronts.
RW: Nicolas Pepe
United have struggled to attack from the right as efficiently as they have been able to do from the left. They need a natural winger or a left footed attacker to do the damage and the way Nicolas Pepe is playing in the Ligue 1 right now, he surely fits the bill. It wouldn’t be that difficult for United to get his signature but the Red Devils need to make it happen anyhow.
LW: Anthony Martial
United have plenty of options to play on the left but with the form and talent Anthony Martial possesses right now, there’s no beating him for that position. Of course, if Alexis Sanchez is still at United next season, he too will struggle to start in the presence of Martial. The Frenchman can turn into a deadly winger with time and he will have to come close to being that from the start of next season itself.
ST: Marcus Rashford
Under Ole, Rashford has been a sensational striker. He has not only scored goals in quantum but also managed to create goals and play an important part in holding up play in the opposition half, something which Romelu Lukaku has struggled to do even with his strong physique. United need Rashford at his very best next season and it will be interesting to see what the young Englishman is able to do if he’s started regularly.
